- Benefits worth the amount of in-state tuition, general fees, housing and dining, plus $5,000 to support independent projects and faculty mentoring. About eight entering students per year.
- Deadline
- No separate application. The latest posted timeline (2026) used the January 5 first-year application deadline; the fall 2027 timeline has not been posted.
- How to apply
- All first-year applicants are reviewed. About 200 semifinalists submit one essay (200 to 300 words) and a short video (3 minutes maximum). Finalists complete a virtual interview with alumni and a virtual presentation to faculty, and about 15 attend an on-campus weekend.

- Finalists typically rank in the top 5% and score above 1500 SAT or 33 ACT; these are typical profiles, not minimums. W&M is test-optional. Some 1693 Scholars are named Stamps 1693 Scholars.
