Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship

Financial need is part of how this award is decided, alongside merit.

Award

Honorary scholarship with a minimum award of $2,500 per year. Scholars with financial need receive grant and scholarship support up to their full need as assessed by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Renewable for up to eight semesters for students entering from high school. Benefits also include priority class enrollment, faculty mentorship, guaranteed on-campus housing during the scholarship, and eligibility for up to $1,000 in research or professional development funding.

Deadline

No separate application. Consideration comes from the UC application (the UC filing deadline is not listed on the scholarship page). Faculty interviews of first-year candidates take place in early March and decisions are sent at the end of March (displayed without a year).

How to apply

All students who apply to UC Berkeley are automatically considered. Candidates are selected from top applicants through holistic review by the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid, and selected candidates are interviewed by faculty. File the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application to be considered for the need-based portion.

Who can apply

First-year applicants to UC Berkeley, including California residents, out-of-state students and international students (transfer students are also considered).

Good to know

The dollar amount beyond the $2,500 minimum depends on financial need. If you receive a need-based award, outside scholarships can reduce it.
