- Top Scholar awards added to an existing merit scholarship: Citrone Scholars Program (four-year full-tuition merit scholarships, number varies by year), Madison Scholarship (full tuition, fees, room and board for up to four years, one recipient), Davis Fellowship (full tuition for up to four years, awarded every other year to one student), Hurt Scholarship ($10,000, by invitation for Top Scholars interested in the sciences), and the Presidential Scholarship.

- Competition dates for the fall 2027 entering class are not published on the scholarship page.
- How to apply
- All admission applicants are considered for merit scholarships with no separate form. Any student awarded the Birthplace Scholarship ($45,000 for 2026-27 entrants) is eligible to compete in the Top Scholar Competition.

- An invitation to compete after admission review
- A finalist round or selection weekend

- Admitted first-year applicants to Hampden-Sydney College (a men's college) who receive the Birthplace Scholarship.
