Student completes the online application personally: account, all form tabs, 500-word essay (topic announced at opening), transcript, and USID benefits number validation.

Who can apply

Unmarried dependent children under 23 with a valid Uniformed Services ID card whose sponsor is active duty, Reserve/Guard, retired or deceased (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or Space Force), planning full-time enrollment in a bachelor's program or a transfer-track community college program. High school applicants need at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA.

Good to know

At least one recipient is chosen per commissary location with qualified applicants; remaining awards are allocated by applicant volume.
