- High school seniors entering an accredited college in the fall who are children, stepchildren, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or U.S.-flag Merchant Marine members, or who are themselves U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps cadets.

- Some named awards prefer STEM majors. The page does not say how merit and need are weighted, but a FAFSA SAR and test scores are required.
